Dhoni learning #1: 2007 T20 WC



In 2007,I had almost quit watching cricket due to the match fixing issue. Then, the T20 WC happened.
Nobody gave us a chance. Dhoni led a young team to SA at a tough time,when India did not even want to play T20 cricket!

He re-ignited my passion for the game not because we won but because of the way we won. We were used to captains with drooping shoulders,frowns on faces in a tough situation. Here he was..not an emotion on the face,just going about his job and his mind working faster than a computer.
He led with empathy,made the team believe and with that the nation started believing. It was refreshing,humble leadership on display.

Who would have given Joginder the last over of a WC when Harbhajan had 1 over left? I,for sure,would'nt have!
His words to Joginder before the last over was leadership magic-"Whatever the result, be confident you have my support’.

I was also at an important stage in my life with 5 months to go for my wedding. My then fiance (now husband) watched the matches with me and my family. It was an awesome introduction to my cricket crazy family...and the expectations were set for the rest of my life!:)

Dhoni and I set off on our own journeys...but our journeys were always aligned when India played:)

To start with...find Dhoni in the pic.... As people become famous, it is very natural for them to want more of the ‘spotlight’ and attention and to do everything on a grand scale. The tiger hunt!

As most of you know my first love is sports and in the last few years, I realized that my 2 nd love is Wildlife. The experience of tracking, spotting and watching wildlife in their natural habitat is something I really enjoy. The story of every Indian household at 630PM IST, thanks to the IPL!

This picture is all of us :) Pic credit DNAindia.com It is such a pleasure to settle down on your sofa, with a cup of coffee, at 630PM IST daily to watch a game of cricket. To think this will continue for more almost 2 months brings a smile to my face. The best part is watching the game with family and chat about it with friends, all supporting different teams with a lot of banter and fun. It is the start of the massive festival season in India! Each game has its drama, exciting talents, comical errors, cases to use technology better and more importantly a lot of learning. I have tried to summarize a few from the first 4 matches below: Match 1 : MI v/s CSK 1.      I loved it when Dhoni sent Jaddu & Sam Curran before him. He later said that it was all a mind game to intimidate the spinners. However, it was bigger than that for me. I heard on commentary that Sam Curran was Dhoni's pick at the auction.
