We need to know these stories!

Only sports has the power to bring out emotions & connect us as a nation. Olympics has done it beautifully, thanks to our persistent & brave athletes who taught us to dream & believe.

The next time you see girls & boys in remote villages of India picking up discus, weights, racket, boxing gloves, riding a horse or practising fencing, you know who is responsible!

1. Hockey

The men & women have got the sport to the forefront. It is now on us to keep backing them & help them take off from here.

Ind v Aus women's : Semi finals!

We have played in 3 Olympics-1980 (4th), 2016 (12th) & now semi finals for the 1st time.

It is a big deal. Especially because we lost our first 3 matches(Ned:3-0; Ger:2-0 & GB : 4-1).

To add to it, Aus had given only 1 goal in their league games.

We were not the favourites in the quarters.

Digest it.

That is how massive the win was.

When I saw Chak de India, I thought, wish I see something like this really. To be frank, I never believed we would. But, it doesn't matter what you & I believed. It only mattered that our team believed.

And, now we are greedy.

The team huddle after the win with the girls jumping & screaming, was all of us!

We play world no.2, Argentina next.

Ind v Belgium men's semis: Lost & will be competing for Bronze

We were not supposed to win on Astro-turf. Our men just put that theory to rest.

Today was not our day. The no. of penalty corners given to Belgium was a joke & they scored. All I can say is that the referee was watching a different match. We didn't convert ours too.

Go for bronze boys!

2. Athletics :

Discus throw

Kamalpreet Kaur: Eliminated but has a place in our hearts

In all these years, I have never heard our country discussing discus throw. To see Indians waiting for 430PM brought a smile to my face. At 25 years, she finished 6th at the Olympics, has made a difference & done our country proud.

3. Equestrian:

Fouaad Mirza: Eliminated but after putting us on the map

1st Indian to qualify after 20 yrs!

His ancestors migrated to India hundreds of years ago from Iran along with horses. His father is a equestrian horses' veterinarian in Bangalore.

He did really well because he has got us talking about a new sport!

4. Wrestling:

Sonam Malik: Eliminated

Like every athlete at the Olympics, she has a story.

In 2017, she was paralyzed on her right side due to a nerve issue on her shoulder & was not able to move her arm. The doctors had no hope that she could wrestle again.

But Sonam & her family did not give up, despite financial issues. She underwent Ayurvedic treatment & was back competing in 1 year's time!

At 19 years old, she became the youngest Indian wrestler to qualify for the games.

In her 1st match today, she was leading till the last 30 seconds of the match. Unfortunate to have lost the close fight but she is one for the future!

As usual, we continue to dream as a nation. Let us see what is in store was us in the coming days.
