In a matter of a few seconds!

While we managed to defend a goal in the last few seconds of hockey, we lost the wrestling Bronze medal in the last few seconds!

A day where we secured 2 medals for the first time ever but lost a really close one.

History has been scripted. We are lucky to have witnessed it.

1. Hockey:

Men's Ind v Ger: BRONZE!

This year will be the turning point for us. For sports other than cricket. Our hockey teams are leading the charge!

I always used to admire the Aus cricket team who never gave up & had the belief to come back from any situation. I wished India was like that. Our cricket team created magic earlier this year in Aus. With back against the wall, we found a way to win every time. We saw the fight & never say die attitude in this team too.

I remember the 1st match of this games where Sreejesh put everything on the line to save goals. That did not change through this tournament. I wonder what must have gone on in his mind in that last 6 seconds today. But, the champ got us the medal. His post match celebration around the goal post was so good to watch!

Time to celebrate people!

For us, hockey has never been the 1st choice sport. It is staggering that India has 12 hockey medals (9 gold) in Olympics, which is the maximum.

Btw, I read that hockey is not our national game now. Is that true?

2. Wrestling:

Ravi Kumar: SILVER!

He competed with a tough opponent who had not lost the last 25 matches at the international level.Man, he was quick & smart. Ravi gave a solid fight but the Russian was too good. He was so sharp at converting Ravi's attack to his own in the last seconds. Brilliant achievement by Ravi though to get a Silver at his 1st Olympics! This is our 2nd silver medal in the sport of wrestling.

Deepak Punia: No medal, too close for comfort.

He lost to Myles Amine from San Marino. San Marino has a population of ~33k & covers an area of ~61sq.km! Incredible that the country has 3 medals already at the Tokyo!

It was a close match & it changed in the last 10 seconds! The final score of 2-4 tells you the story.Deepak was completely tired after the 1st round & tried to bide time, which was dangerous. In the last 10 seconds, Myles scored & snatched the BRONZE from us.I wanted our medal tally to double from yesterday & we really had a chance!

It must be hard to digest it but he would have learnt a lot from this experience!

3. Golf

Aditi Ashok

I cannot believe that I am typing this.

Aditi is still tied on no.2 after 2 rounds with 2 more rounds to go!

In GOLF.

She.has.a.chance.to.be.on.the.podium!

Tomorrow is a BIG day. Our women's hockey team has a chance to win BRONZE too. Who ever imagined this at the start of the Olympics?! Please understand a loss hurts them more than it hurts us. Respect & support the girls so that they are able to play with all their heart.

Things are only getting better & we have a bright future in the world of sports!

A proud Indian always!

Jai Hind
