Did you hear our women ROAR?
Sport is all about the heart!
1. Badminton:
PV Sindhu : Stormed to the Semis!
Sindhu beat the 4th seed and how! She won the 1st set comfortably & had a 6 point lead in the 2nd. It was incredible to watch Yamaguchi take Sindhu's smashes literally lying on the floor & coming up like a spring, ready for the next one! She fought brilliantly & came back to take a lead in the 2nd set. They played a 54-shot rally which Yamaguchi won to level the set at 15-15. It was exhausting to watch, imagine playing!
At one point, the 2nd set scoreboard read 20-18 - 2 set points for the Japanese. Our champion fought & beat her 22-20!
I love Sindhu's aggression, attitude & passion.
She will play World no.1 tomorrow in the semis!
Come on Sindhu, no pressure but we want GOLD!
2. Boxing:
Lovlina: Charged into the Semis!
Another fierce competitor who fought fearlessly to win against World no.2 ! She is the 1st woman from Assam to win a medal. The spirit & guts she has showed in her 1st Olympics & that too in a quarter final, is so inspiring!
Muhammad Ali's & Mary Kom inspire her!
Feels so nice to write that we are assured of a medal! The question is, which one?!
Simranjit : Eliminated
3. Archery
Deepika Kumari : Deepika was the World no. 1 but lost to a world class Korean An San who already has 2 GOLD in Tokyo Olympics. She is World no.1 but wonder what happens on the Olympic stage.
4. Athletics
Avinash: Eliminated
He finished 7th but bettered his national record. Brilliant achievement!
Dutee : Eliminated in 100 M, next 200 M
Jabir : Eliminated
Mixed relay :Eliminated.
5. Men's hockey : India v Japan
We won 5-3 v Japan & are at no. 2 in the group table, which is the best in Olympics for us in the league stage. We are raring to go in the Quarters!
6. Women's hockey : India v Ireland
Our women won a match after 41 years! Unbelievable. It was an intense match. Perfect for the purists. Not many goals scored but both teams fought it out. With just over 3 minutes to go, the score was 0-0 & Rani/Navneet scored a brilliant goal to give us a win.
We still have a chance to qualify for the quarters provided we win against South Africa next & other matches go our way!
7. Equestrian : Eventing - It involves three phases: Dressage, Cross-Country, and Jumping
Fouaad Mirza :
Brilliant debut & he finished 7th on Day 1 in the dressage session.
8. Golf
Anirban : 2nd round interrupted due to bad weather, to play on 31st July. Currently at rank T20.
Udayan : Finished round 2 at Rank t57.
9. Sailing : they have done exceedingly well in a sport that India generally never speaks about!
Ganapathy & Varun : 3 more races to go , currently on 17th!
Nethra : Eliminated
Finished at no. 35.
Vishnu : Eliminated
Finished at 20th .
10. Shooting - Very disappointing.
Manu - Eliminated
Rahi - Eliminated
We could have another assured medal tomorrow! Exciting times ahead !
Come on India
