A painful day

Today was one of those days when you hope that it was just a nightmare which will pass.

Sadly, that is not the case.

On bad days, things dont go your way when it matters the most or even the best is not enough, no matter what you do.

The shooting & badminton results are the reasons for these words.

My heart is just bleeding thinking of what could have been.

If I feel like this, imagine the athletes themselves. They give their blood & sweat to the sport & country. Please respect & encourage them to do better next time.

Think what you were doing or had achieved at their age. That will put everything in perspective.

So, today's summary:

1. Shooting :

- Manu & Saurabh: Eliminated

What can I say? After topping the charts in the qualifications, they did not end up at the podium in the final round. They did exceptionally well, especially Saurabh who shot 18 10s in a row to qualify! I don't know what changed but they ended up 7/8 in the final. It was the same arena, same target, same gun but yet we managed to get eliminated. Is it something in our head that is holding us back? Don't know but it hurts. They are young & will learn from this.

- Yashaswini & Abhishek : Eliminated

- Elavenil & Divyansh : Eliminated

- Anjum & Deepak  : Eliminated

2. Badminton:

Chirag & Satwik: Eliminated

The doubles pair had defeated World no. 3 in their 1st match but lost to World no. 1 in the 2nd. They had to play Great Britain in the 3rd match & till this match started, it was assumed that if they win vs GB, we would qualify for the quarters. However, just before the match started, World no.3 beat World no.1 & they qualified based on no. of games won! Sometimes you can do everything right but things still don't go your way. Tragic.

3. Hockey - men's Ind v Spain

After the 1-7 drubbing from Australia in the previous match, the way the boys came back was remarkable. We won 3-0. If we win vs Argentina next, we have a chance to qualify. Super proud!

4. Table tennis:

Sharath Kamal : Eliminated

He played World no .3 & reigning Olympic champion, Ma Long & fought incredibly well. He won a game against the champion & in the 3rd game, the score read 1-1; 11-11, which Ma Long went on to win 13-11.Ma Long had to take time out!I am writing these details to let you know that Sharath gave it his all & can be really proud of his journey.

5. Sailing:Need to qualify in top 10 after 10 / 12 races to qualify for the medal race

- Nethra :She dropped to 33rd rank & with 4 races to go, it is going to be tough

- Vishnu :He is in the 22nd rank currently & has 5 races to go. We will have to wait & watch where this goes.

- KC Ganapathy & Varun Thakkar : In 18th place after 1st race. There are 12 races in this category.

6. Boxing:

Lovlina: Into the quarters!

She won the round of 16 & qualified for the quarter finals. I guess this is one sport where we can hope for a medal!

Let us see what is in store for us tomorrow. It is a new day with new hope and opportunity!
