A day of exits & inspiration
Multiple exits today were painful. I had to use multiple screens too!
But there were some inspirational performances & good fights which we should all be proud of.
Tomorrow could be the day that may change the course for us.
1. Fencing
Bhavani Devi : Eliminated but after a fight, was the highlight of the day!
This was the 1st time we were participating in fencing.Bhavani Devi made an impressive debut with a win. I was in awe of her fighting it out with the World no 2. The suit, the helmet with lights blinking, the sword (called sabre) & the India flag on the face, everything was such a sight. She has spotlighted a sport that Indians would normally never think of pursuing as a career. Well, till now. She has put us on the map. It takes something to take a route that not many would dare to.
2. Table Tennis
- Sharath Kamal: progressed to round 3 in singles & will face World no.2 from China tomorrow
- Sutirtha : Eliminated
After a brilliant fight in the 1st round, she was comprehensively beaten in straight sets
- Manika : Eliminated
Again, after a great round 2, she was beaten in straight sets by the no.10 very quickly. She had no answer.
3. Archery
Men's team : Eliminated
The boys defeated Kazakhstan only to meet the No.1 ranked Korea in the quarterfinals. If you have some time, please read/watch how Korea prepares the archers right from childhood for the Olympics & you will know why we lost the way we did (0-6)
4. Shooting
Angad Singh & Mairaj Khan : Eliminated
Shooting continues to disappoint despite our shooters being world class.
5. Badminton
Chirag & Satwik : They played the World no 1 Indonesian pair today & lost in straight sets but after a good fight. It just took 32 minutes for them to wrap it up. The pace of the rallies was incredible to watch. Next, they play the Great Britain pair & will be hoping to win so that they can qualify.
6. Ind v Germany Women's hockey : India lost 0-2
We lost to the Rio bronze medalists. It wasn't our day as our girls missed scoring from a penalty stroke too. We definitely had our chances but did not convert them. We play Great Britain next.
1. Swimming
Sajan Prakash: Eliminated
With this, all 3 swimmers are eliminated from the games.
1. Tennis :
Sumit Nagal - Eliminated in Singles after he lost to world no 2 in straight sets.
9. Sailing: The sailors have to compete in 10 races & be in the top 10 to qualify for the medal race!
Vishnu : He is on Rank 25 with 7 more races to go.
Nethra : She is going strong, climbing up the ranks with every race & currently stands at rank 15 & has 4 races left.
This is another sport that has suddenly got the eyeballs in India because of these 2 & with a good chance to qualify, it should be super exciting!
10. Boxing
Ashish Kumar : Eliminated
He is the 3rd boxer to be eliminated & this was his debut Olympics.
Tomorrow is critical. We have multiple shooting, sailing, hockey, boxing & badminton.
So let's all cheer4india!
Jai hind🇮🇳
