A day of ecstasy & heartbreaks


A day of mixed emotions. I struggled to watch so many sports at the same time-phone to laptop to TV. I will need my multiple screens strategy more than ever now!


1. Ind Vs NZ men's hockey-Ind won 3-2

My morning started with screaming & jumping. The technology for reviews was shocking. Those penalty shoot outs were heart stopping but Sreejesh was a superstar! Tomorrow we play Aus!

2. Weightlifting:

Mirabai Chanu: Silver

Story of the day! Our only weightlifter at Tokyo became the 2nd woman to win a Silver medal after PV Sindhu! So proud. So much determination & humility in her eyes.

After failing at Rio in 2016,she fought depression & came back to create a world record in 2021! What a fighter!

She just inspired the next generation to pick weights.

3. Shooting: The largest contingent of 15 & biggest hope

Elavenil : Eliminated.

Lot of hope but wasn't her day & was sad to see her go

Apurvi Chandela : Eliminated.

Saurabh: Eliminated

The 19 year old was the youngest to win an Asian Games medal in 2018 & could have repeated it but wasn't to be. One to watch out for in the future.

Abhishek Verma, world no 1 : Eliminated

4. Badminton:

Sai Praneet lost to Misha Zilberman from Israel

It was an upset as he was expected to beat the Israeli. He plays his next match on 28th.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty - Men's doubles

After not getting along,they are conquering the world now. They defeated the World no 3 after trailing in the final game and will meet the World no 1 next!

5. Tennis : Sumit Nagal won!

He became the 1st singles player to win a match after 25 years & will meet the World no.2,Medvedev next.

6. Table Tennis: lost mixed doubles but 2 women through to next round in singles!

Manika Batra : Became the 1st woman to win a match in 29 yrs! Her next match vs Ukrain is tomorrow!

Sutirtha Mukherjee : She was 1-3 down and fought her way back to win 4-3. She took a break in the middle of the 3rd game & don't know what the coach told her but she fought like a tigress after that. Sutirtha kept extracting one enforced error after another. She plays Portugal tomorrow & I just have a feeling we are going to see something special.

7. Archery: Mixed team lost

Deepika & Pravin:This was the first time they were paired & did well to reach the finals but were not able to bring their best game today.

8. Boxing : Vikash Krishan lost in the 1st round of his 3rd Olympics vs the home boy but this is another sport we are expecting medals. Tomorrow our champ Mary Kom will be in action!

9. Judo : Sushila Devi, our only Judoka lost in the 1st round

10. Ind v Netherland women's hockey: India lost 1-5

At half time,we were 1-1 but after that the way the World no. 1 team attacked,we were just not good enough. A disappointing end to an action packed day. They play the next game vs Germany on 26th.


Whatever the result, we should be proud of our athletes.

Back them today,tomorrow & forever.

A dramatic day.A brave fight, an unbelievable comeback, a spot in the final & brilliant performances. Who ever thought one day we will discuss javelin throw & golf? Oh Olympics,thank you. 1. Athletics: Javelin throw Neeraj Chopra:Straight into the finals! What an debut!1 attempt & he flew into the finals like his javelin! He topped Grp A and Pakistani Arshad Nadeem topped Grp B. They will meet in the finals. Mouth watering!They shared a beautiful moment at the Asian games too! The 23-year-old became the first Indian javelin thrower to enter the Olympic finals. We have never won a medal in Athletics.Is this the year? Shivpal Singh-Eliminated 2. Boxing: Lovlina- BRONZE!! Her semi final opponent is world champion & ruthless. My god, she fought like a champion. In the 1st round, Busenaz took the round away in the last 30 secs. The 2nd & 3rd rounds were intense. While I was in awe of Busenaz, we must applaud Lovlina.
