5. 3 precious babies

On March 28,we welcomed 3 new lives. We named them Patchy, Blissa & Simba.

It has been an incredible experience.

My daughter's learning curve has been exponential.

Let me share some interesting stuff.

We make such a big deal about delivery. For Jessy,it was not.She knew a day before that it was time & started hunting for a safe place in the house to deliver. We offered her 2-3 places and she decided. At 2 am she meowed and we let her in.The delivery was without any fuss.Jessy and the kids knew exactly what needs to be done. The fascinating thing was the way Jessy cleaned up after delivery. Not a spot of blood to be seen.

The kittens did not open eyes for 8 days. All they did was find the mother by smell, nurse & sleep.Jessy even kept the kittens clean by eating their potty & licking piss.Incredible!

On the 4th day,my cupboard was slightly open and Jessy suddenly entered. She was examining something. We wondered what was going on.

She came out, picked her kittens one by one and moved them there.By instinct, cats change 4-5 places after delivery. This is to protect them from the male cats.Male cats kill the kittens either to protect territory or to get the female's time. So,she changed places even within the house! It was fascinating to watch the process. The last time she changed place, she meowed at me,like asking for permission & I said "Ok Jessy", like I understood. She ran,got her kittens, one by one & moved them.

The kittens with their pink noses & blue marble like eyes is an "aww" moment, every single time.

They started walking after 2 weeks & then all hell broke loose.

No corner is spared, nothing is safe.

The way the mother protects & trains her babies is fascinating. This is their training ground, they fight among themselves and with the mother. Brilliant to watch.

Jessy has a different meow for different things:warning her kids, asking me for food, wanting me to pet etc.One day, when Patchy was coming down the stairs with Jessy towards the main door,Jessy meowed weirdly.Patchy was all alert and ran upstairs. Maybe she told him to be careful of the dog! God only knows.

Now the kittens are 2 months old. From small little creatures to having bat ears now,it's a riot at home.We don't know what's coming up in the next second. We get scratched, they climb on mosquito meshes & on us, fight for food, when we fed chicken, the growls that came out naturally was amazing to hear and watch & they are my workout partners too. Each has its own characteristic.Patchy is comfortable around people,a big foodie, adventurous & a bully. Blissa is also a foodie but lazy. Simba is stuck with the mother always, meowing all the time & is the last to eat food.

These cats have been our saviours in these horrific times. They give us so much happiness and there is so much to learn from them.

Who thought that we would stay in Bangalore for so long & end up having a cat family with us.Again, the only good thing about the pandemic is nature around us!
